Mid-State Health Center Urges Community to Prioritize Health with Fall Flu Vaccinations

Oct 4, 2023 | News

As autumn leaves begin to fall and temperatures start to drop, Mid-State Health Center would like to remind the community to prioritize their health by getting their flu shots this fall. With flu season fast approaching, taking proactive steps to protect yourself and your loved ones from influenza is essential.

Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a contagious respiratory illness caused by viruses infecting the nose, throat and lungs that can lead to severe complications, hospitalization, and even death. Some groups such as older people, young children, and those with certain health conditions may be at higher risk of serious flu complications. By receiving a flu vaccine, you can significantly reduce the risk of contracting the flu and its potential consequences.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), September and October are the ideal months for getting your flu shot, but vaccinations are recommended throughout the fall and early winter timeframe. Influenza can be unpredictable, but protecting yourself and those around you is within your control.

To protect yourself and your family from the flu, avoid contact with sick people, avoid touching your face, cover your coughs and sneezes, wash your hands with soap and water, and stay home when you’re sick; and importantly, make sure to stay up to date with your flu vaccine!
