The thyroid, a small but mighty gland located at the base of your neck, plays a huge role in the body. It influences the function of many important organs, like the heart, brain, liver, kidneys, and even your skin.

During Thyroid Awareness Month, Mid-State Health Center aims to raise awareness about thyroid-related disorders and thyroid cancer, emphasizing the significance of early detection, prevention, and treatment.

Thyroid disorders, such as hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and thyroid cancer, can impact individuals of all ages. Recognizing the signs and symptoms is important in seeking timely medical attention. Some common indicators include unexplained weight changes, fatigue, changes in heart rate, and disturbances in sleep patterns.

Alyssa Constantino, Family Medicine Practitioner in Mid-State’s Lincoln office says, “Thyroid Awareness Month reminds us to take care of our thyroid, and make sure we’re up to date with our regularly scheduled screenings. The thyroid plays an important role in regulating various bodily functions, and understanding the signs and symptoms of thyroid disorders is essential for early intervention.”

Alyssa encourages our community to stay up to date with regular check-ups and screenings. Early detection is key, and talking to your provider to learn more about signs and symptoms can help!
