Mid-State Health is expanding access to Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), a service offered by Dr. Annie Taylor, Psy.D., that helps families rebuild connections and support healthier developmental outcomes for young children. Strong, secure relationships between children and their caregivers are a critical foundation for lifelong health and well-being, yet these bonds can be strained by stress, trauma, or behavioral challenges.

Child-Parent Psychotherapy is an evidence-based approach designed specifically for children from birth through age five and their caregivers. It focuses on strengthening the caregiver-child relationship as a pathway to healing and growth. By working with both the child and caregiver together, CPP helps families process trauma, improve communication, and build a sense of safety and trust.

“Infants and young children rely on caregivers to understand the world and feel safe,” said Dr. Taylor. “CPP helps strengthen that bond so caregivers can support healing and stability after difficult experiences.”

This approach may benefit families when:

  • A child has experienced stressful or traumatic events.
  • A child is displaying behavioral or emotional challenges.
  • There has been a change in caregivers or living situations.
  • Caregivers are seeking support to strengthen their parenting or relationship with their child.

CPP is one of the most well-established therapies for treating trauma in infants and toddlers. It is goal-oriented, individualized, and continuously adapted to meet each family’s unique needs, making it both effective and deeply supportive.

For families who may be struggling, services like CPP offer more than therapy, they offer a path toward connection, resilience, and long-term wellness.

Mid-State Health encourages caregivers to take the first step toward strengthening their family’s future. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Annie Taylor, call (603) 536-4000 or visit www.midstatehealth.org to learn more about available behavioral health services.
