Mid-State Health Encourages Community Support for “Feed the Need” This Holiday Season

Dec 10, 2025 | Health Highlights, News

As the holiday season inspires generosity across our communities, Mid-State Health is inviting residents to help ensure that no neighbor goes without access to healthy, nourishing food. Through its Feed the Need program, Mid-State continues its commitment to addressing food insecurity, an issue that impacts many families throughout rural New Hampshire and nationwide.

The Feed the Need program is woven directly into Mid-State’s primary care model. During routine visits, patients are screened for food insecurity using simple, supportive questions. When someone is identified as needing extra support, they receive an immediate “go bag” filled with nutritious, shelf-stable foods, recipe ideas, and helpful nutrition education. From there, Mid-State’s Patient Support Team steps in to connect individuals with long-term community resources to ensure continued stability and better health outcomes.

A dedicated partner in this work, Market Basket in Plymouth, has supported the year-round program by offering a convenient food drop-off bin at the store’s entrance. Community members can simply add a few extra items to their weekly shopping trip and place them in the bin on their way out.

This holiday season, when many are feeling inspired to give back, Mid-State is asking the community to help fill the Feed the Need bin with healthy food items, such as: Oats, cereal, Peanut butter, dried fruit, canned fruit (low sugar) & canned vegetables (low sodium), applesauce, non-perishable milk, canned tuna or chicken, canned soups, brown rice, pasta, popcorn, tortillas/wraps, salsa, tomato sauce, crackers, broths, seasonings, condiments, olive oil, personal care items, diapers, etc.

These contributions make a direct and immediate impact on local families, providing both nourishment and peace of mind. For those who prefer to give from home, online donations can be made securely at www.midstatehealth.org/giving/. This season, Mid-State Health invites everyone to join in the spirit of giving, because when a community comes together, no one goes hungry.
