This June, Mid-State Health Center invites men to “Check Their Engines” in recognition of Men’s Health Month, a national observance focused on the importance of preventive care and early detection of health conditions that commonly affect men and boys.
Research consistently shows that men are less likely than women to seek preventive care, establish a primary care provider (PCP), or undergo regular screenings. This gap in care often results in underdiagnosed or untreated conditions and contributes to higher mortality rates among men.
Establishing a relationship with a PCP is a simple but powerful step toward improved health outcomes, helping men stay current on age-appropriate screenings, vaccinations, and other essential services.
Mid-State is encouraging all men to take a proactive role in their health by focusing on three key areas:
- Heart Health – Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for men in the U.S. Routine blood pressure checks, cholesterol monitoring, and heart-healthy habits like regular exercise and nutrition can significantly reduce risk.
- Cancer Screenings – Prostate and colorectal cancers are among the most common in men, but they are also highly treatable when caught early. Routine screenings based on age and risk factors are critical to early detection.
- Mental Health – Mental health is a vital part of overall well-being. Conditions like depression, anxiety, and chronic stress are common in men and often go untreated. Seeking support and having open conversations with a provider can make a meaningful difference.
“Men’s Health Month is a valuable reminder that early detection and preventive care truly make a difference in long-term health outcomes,” said Dr. Wesley Phillips, Family Medicine Provider at Mid-State Health Center. “By staying proactive, whether it’s through regular checkups, screenings, or conversations about mental health, men can take meaningful steps toward living longer, healthier lives. That’s the kind of care we’re committed to delivering at Mid-State.”
Mid-State Health Center remains committed to supporting the health and well-being of every individual in our community.
